Welcome to the Townhouse on Sixth

Welcome to the Townhouse on Sixth blog!

The Townhouse on Sixth is a boutique-style sober living in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Over the past few years, recovery from alcohol and drugs has become a booming industry. This has led to the proliferation of for-profit sober houses all over the US. Most of these houses function similarly to college dorms, providing residents with a bed and a roof over their heads, but without much in the way of on-site assistance for residents.

While we’re technically a sober house, the Townhouse on Sixth isn’t like those other houses. Instead of cramming in as many beds as possible, we house only a 4 clients at a time, creating a high staff-to-client ratio. This allows us to provide the 1-on-1 counseling and recovery assistance to our residents. The Townhouse is a different kind of sober living, so it only makes sense that the Townhouse blog would be a different kind of blog.

At Townhouse on Sixth, recovery is more than a job, it’s a lifestyle. Our staff is dedicated to carrying the message of recovery to those in need, because we’re in recovery too. After decades of sobriety achieved through 12-step meetings, sponsorships, service commitments, and carrying the message, we have some strong opinions about recovery in the 21st century. For us, this blog will be a place where we can explore cutting-edge ideas and philosophies, and hopefully provide some new perspective on age-old recovery topics.

The topics we’re looking forward to the most are the topics that aren’t often discussed on other online recovery sites, or at 12-step meetings. We’ll explore esoteric ideas about recovery, with topics like what to do when 12-step doesn’t work, grieving sober, rejected amends, alternatives to 12-step, and more. Some of these topics are controversial, but our intention is to provide information and perspective – not endorsement.

The Townhouse on Sixth is not a medical facility, nor are we affiliated with Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, or any other 12-step program. The opinions shared here are those of the authors only, and do not necessarily represent the views of the Townhouse, its staff, or its residents. Providing information about a given topic does not imply endorsement – we are not here to co-sign bad ideas. Rather, we hope to provide a platform that encourages an open and honest dialog about all things recovery.

Here’s to a long, successful recovery.

XOXO the Townhouse staff
